What is a Paediatric Ophthalmologist?A Paediatric Ophthalmologist is a medical and surgical eye specialist who has undertaken special training in eye disorders of children and who has a special interest in treating these disorders. This involves firstly general medical training and graduation as a medical practitioner. Several years of general training completes this basic medical experience before several more years of intense study, training and further examination must be undertaken before qualification as a medical and surgical eye specialist. Even further training, experience and expertise is then needed to practice as an eye specialist dealing with the special eye problems of childhood. As a result of this extensive training and experience the paediatric Eye Specialist can manage both disorders specific to the eye and general medical conditions affecting the visual system. This form of practice results in special expertise in managing all patients with Strabismus (Squint, Turned or Cross eyes). For this reason adult patients are often referred for management of these conditions as well as children. Recent Lectures of CompanyLongName |
